Wife, son demand justice of Niru murder

A housewife namely Syeda Shafina Akhter demanded justice for her husband’s murder in a press conference at Barisal Reporters’ Unity on Sunday. Her 14 years’ son Arniban Prithbi Barna was also present in press conference. She told the journalist that she had a court marriage with IBIS University Lecturer Niru Ranjan Shil alias Niru Raihan in 2001.
Housewife Shafina said, she married Niru as per Muslim Law as her husband was converted to Muslim from Hindu. According to cabinama the marriage was held on July 10, 2005. Her husband was a geography teacher at Ibais University’s Dhanmondi Campus in Dhaka. Due to this marriage, Niru’s relationship with his other family members was gradually deteriorating.
‘At several times when my husband went home at Gajendra village under Ujirpur Upajila of Barishal district and demanded his share of land, he engaged quarrel with his brothers over this. He stayed at home from February 25, 2019 to March 12, 2019 and insisted on them to pay his share, and the family agreed to pay him Tk 22 lakh for the land after two months. The rest of the money will be given in phases. As such, on April 17, 2019, my husband came home from India to receive money Tk.22 lakh. But on April 21, at 3.45 am, my husband’s brother Manoranjan Shil called me over mobile phone and told me that Niru had died of heart attack.
Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Barisal district IO Mizanur Rahman said, “We are trying to send the body parts as viscera to Dhaka. Hopefully this will unravel the mystery of this death.” He said the body would be exhumed from grave on Monday.
