Million’s heartthrob and superstar of Bangla film in 90’s Slaman Shah did not kill himself; he was murdered by the accomplices of his wife Samira. This was revealed in a recent video message, which went viral on the social media networks including Facebook. A Bangladeshi born American migrant Rabeya Sultana Rubi claimed that her Chinese husband and brother had killed Salman Shah with the help of victim’s wife. Twenty one years have passed after the death of popular movie star, but the incident still remains shrouded in mystery. Though different departments of police conducted joint and separate investigations into the incident, they failed to prove whether it was an incident of suicide or homicide.
Salman Shah, born Shahriar Chowdhury Emon, died on September 6 in 1996. He was then 25. At that time, there was a common belief that the actor had committed suicide at his Eskaton residence.
But refuting such claim, his father Kamaruddin Chowdhury filed a murder case with the concerned police station accusing 11 persons, including Samira and influential film producer Aziz Mohammad Bhai.
Rabeya Sultana Rubi, who recently released the video, was also one of the eleven accused in the case filed by Salman’s father. Now Rubi claims that Samira’s family members were involved in the murder.
At that time, the case had taken a dramatic turn when one Rezvi Ahmed in a confessional statement given to the police said that he had killed Salman with the help of Salman’s wife and mother-in-law and eight other accomplices. But Rezvi later disowned his confession given before the police.
Meanwhile, drawing attention of Salman’s mother Nilufar Chowdhury [Nila], in the video Rubi said: “I know every detail of the murder [of Salman]. In any way, the case should be investigated again. I’ll be present in the court to testify to the truth.”
“Salman Shah didn’t kill himself, he was murdered. My husband had committed the murder with the help of my brother. They were all Chinese. The killing was planned and committed by Samira’s family,” she continued in the video.
Rubi also claimed that she fled the country after her Chinese husband tried to kill her. “In the meantime, my younger brother Rumi was also killed, who was involved in Salman’s murder. I still don’t know where Rumi was buried. If it is possible to exhume the body of Rumi, it will be proved that he was strangulated to death,” the video message said.
“My husband Chang Ling Chang, known as John Chang in Bangladesh, was the owner of Shanghai Chinese Restaurant at road-27, Dhanmondi in the city,” she also said.
Earlier on February 10 this year, Nila Chowdhury claimed that her son didn’t commit suicide, he was murdered. She also expressed hope that justice will be served to the bereaved family.
“During this government’s tenure many longstanding cases have been solved. So, I hope the mystery in this case will be revealed too. There were intentional efforts to establish the incident as a suicide case,” the actor’s mother had said.
A Dhaka court transferred the case to the Police Bureau of Investigation on December 7 last year for fresh investigation. The order was passed by the court when Salman’s mother filed a no-confidence petition against the order given on February 10, 2015 which issued directives to the Rapid Action Battalion to investigate the case.
Metropolitan Magistrate Imdadul Haque submitted a probe report on July 9, 2014 which found no indication of murder.
