A woman was killed by her husband for dowry in Parbisnupur village of Kalia upazila in Jashore district yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Tamanna Khatun, 20, daughter of Akhter Mollah from Khorria village of the upazila.
Quoting the deceased’s family members, the police said that Sipon Sheikh, son of Rubel Sheikh of the village, used to torture his wife Tamanna for dowry since their marriage three years ago.
At one stage of altercation over the issue, Sipon beat Tamanna mercilessly with a bamboo stick on Friday night, leaving her seriously injured. Locals rescued the victim and took her to Norail Sador Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.
The family members of the husband and father-in-law have fled after the incident.
Police recovered the body around 9:30 am
and sent it to Narail Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Kalia Police Station OC Rafiqul Islam said the body of Tamanna, a housewife, was recovered on Saturday morning. She was found murdered. Details will be known after the autopsy report. After this incident, the members of Tamanna’s father-in-law are absconding.
