A woman was allegedly committed suicide by hanging with the ceiling fan as her husband denied to give her Tk 40 to purchase Henna (Mehedi) for make up ahead of attending a family programme in the city’s Jurain area on Sunday night.
The deceased has been identified as Babli Akter, 22, wife Saddam Hossain, from Muradnagar of Cumilla district.
Quoting relatives, Bachhu Mia, In-Charge of DMCH Police Outpost, said, “Saddam visited his ailing mother-in-law Fatema Begum with the family members at Suhrawardy Hospital on Sunday night. They back to their residence as their three-month baby boy felt uneasy in the hospital.”
After returning, Babli Akter demanded Tk 40 from her husband (barber by profession) to purchase hina to take part in a family programme but he refused to fulfill the demand of his wife as he had only Tk 20 in cash. Considering an insult, Babli went to another room and committed suicide by hanging with the scarf to the ceiling fan, the police official said.
One of our relatives found her hanging and screaming in the room from outside. Family members rescued her after breaking open the door and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where the on duty doctors declared Babli dead around 1:30 in the night.
The body was kept at the DMCH mortuary, the SI said.
