The High Court on Tuesday issued a rule on the Secretary of the Home Ministry and Director General of Passport Office for not issuing Machine Readable Passport to BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.
Justice Quamrul Islam Siddiqui and Justice Razik-Al-Jalil passed the order asking to respond within three weeks from the date of issuing the rule.
Rizvi submitted his old passport to the Passport Office for a new MRP on December 10. He expected to get his new MRP by December 31. As the stipulated time passed and the Passport Office did not issue his passport, Rizvi filed the writ on May 29, said his lawyer.
Advocate Jainul Abedin and Jahirul Islam Sumon stood for Rizvi, while Deputy Attorney General Mokhlesur Rahman represented the state.
