UNB, Dhaka :
Questioning the Prime Minister’s ‘silence’ over the murder of Comilla college student Sohagi Jahan Tonu, BNP leader Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday demanded a judicial investigation into the incident for ensuring proper punishment of the perpetrators.
“We demand that a judicial probe committee be formed so that the real perpetrators are tracked down through it and meted out exemplary punishment,” he said. Mosharraf made the demand while speaking at a human chain programme arranged by Comilla’s Residents, in Dhaka in front of the Jatiya Press Club protesting Tonu’s killing.
Tonu, 19, a second year history student of Victoria College and a member of Victoria College Theatre, went missing in the evening on March 20, hours after she had got out of her home at Comilla Mynamati Cantonment for private tuition. Later, her body was recovered from the Cantonment area at night.
Police suspected that she had been raped before the murder. Pointing at the Prime Minister, the BNP standing committee member said, “You had taken to the streets and waged a movement after the killing of Yasmin (during BNP’s rule in 1995).
