The High Court on Sunday asked the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (RAJUK) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) to explain within four weeks on which authority five acre land was allotted to East Pakistan Governor Monem Khan in 1967.
The Bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath passed the suo moto order while hearing a writ petition filed by Monem Khan’s son A H M Quamruzzaman challenging legality of partial
demolition of the house and stay on the demolition drive, said Deputy Attorney General Motahaer Hosein Saju.
The court also adjourned hearing on Quamruzzaman’s petition till November 28.
A mobile court launched an eviction drive on November 3 at house No 110 of road No 27 in Banani. The boundary wall of the house was torn down. A H M Quamruzzaman filed a petition with the HC seeking stay order in this regard.
HC asked on November 7 as to why the eviction was launched though there was remaining a stay order. A written statement of DNCC authority was asked within seven days. Besides, HC directed to stop eviction for that time. Hearing was held on DNCC’s explanation on Sunday.
DNCC counsellor Advocate Ahsanul Karim said that eviction was launched in the place which was grabbed by the members of Monem Khan’s family. HC gave a stay order on it earlier. But no stay order was effective on the road. After noticing this the court passed an order.
