The High Court (HC) on Sunday issued a rule upon the government to explain as to why the job of 74 Commercial Assistants of Cargo Department of Biman Bangladesh Airlines should not be made permanent.
These 74 Commercial Assistants have been working on daily basis in the Marketing and Sales section of Cargo Department.
The bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by the 74 employees.
Eight respondents, including the Secretary of Civil Aviation, have to comply with the rule within four weeks. Advocate B M Elias Kochi and Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua appeared for the petitioners in the court while Deputy Attorney General Md Mukhlesur Rahman stood for the state. Barrister Jyotirmoy Barua said after the court order, 74 employees have been serving as Commercial Assistant in the Marketing and Sales section of Cargo Department of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on a daily basis since December 26 in 2016. But the authorities on January 3 in 2018 appointed 55 new persons on permanent basis without enduring the daily basis employees, though they have the same qualifications.
