Imagination and rumours are prevailing in the port city regarding appointment of next Chairman of Chittagong Development Authority.
The second term of the present CDA Chairman Abdus Salam will expire on April 22 next. Abdus Salam discharged his responsibilities as Chairman for the last 5 years including extended period of two years. Abdus Salam is also the Treasurer of Chittagong City Awami League .
In the meantime , 4 names have been proposed by different quarters of Chittagong to Prime Minister office, a reliable sources said.
After consent of PM, concerned Ministry will appoint the next CDA Chairman. Rumours prevailing in the concerned quarters in city about the appointment of next chairman .
While contacted the Housing and Public Works Minister Engr. Mosharaf Hossain told that he did not know the matter of CDA chairman yet. Concerned sources said the following names for next chairman are now pending in the PM office.
These proposed names are present Chairman Abdus Salam, KDA Chairman Brigadier Md. Shamsul Alam , President of Chittagong South District President Moslemuddin Chowdhury and the President of Bangladesh Inland Container Depot Association Nurul Quayum Khan and Organising Secretary of Chittagong North Awami League Younus Gani Chowdhury .
Another sources said Quayum Khan is one of the relatives of the Prime Minister. Former Mayor and Chittgong City AL President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury proposed the name of Moslemuddin Chowdhury. While talked with the CDA Chairman Abdus Salam told The New Nation that he was out of the country for the last 15 years and did not know about the issue of next CDA chairman.
In the meantime, a numbers of press conference, human chain were held in Chittagong Press Club premises demanding the removal of the present chairman as arranged by the CDA Sramik Karmachari League for his alleged patronization to Jamaat-Shibir backed Sramik Union. Sramik Karmachari League also put a ultimatum to remove him very recently.
