Just when everyone had started enjoying the wait for Rituparna Sengupta – brand ambassador of shimmer and red lips – she took everyone by surprise. Dressed in the season’s favourite cold shoulder and distressed denims, Ritu, who has lost oodles of weight, was a pretty picture as she walked into a Park Street eatery with Prosenjit Chatterjee for the announcement of Kaushik Ganguly’s Drishtikon.
The two, colour-coordinated for the evening, still have a touch of magic about them. So was ‘twinning’ a happy coincidence? Apparently not. I heard Ritu had rummaged through her piles of sparkling clothes to zero in on a decent top on the insistence of one of her aides. And this aide acted on instructions that came straight from Prosenjit! Why Ritu and Prosenjit still listen to each other is something I don’t know. After their special relationship soured decades back, the duo had decided not to work together on the big screen.
In real life, one was present in the other’s life like a CCTV camera. Not only did they keep a tab on each other’s professional and personal lives, their let-me-kill-you-first behaviour in full public view has provided enough grist to the rumour mill. So after their Praktan did big box-office numbers last year, directors like Raja Chanda and Kamaleswar Mukherjee offered films to the duo.
