Bangladesh T20 skipper Mahmudullah said that they are focused on playing their brand of cricket in the upcoming ICC World T20 as he feels that it suits them best considering they are better as skilled-hitters rather than power hitters.
Bangladesh take on Scotland in their opening Group B match of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Muskat, Oman but they still remain unsettled with their out of form batting department, which is raising concern about their prospect in the global meet.
The Tigers played two warm-up matches against Sri Lanka and Ireland respectively in the build-up of the tournament in Abu Dhabi and in both the matches, the batsmen failed to score 150 plus total and it resulted in them losing both the matches.
Bangladesh enjoyed great success in the T20 format in the recent past as they won nine out of their last 13 T20Is on their way to clinching successive series victories over Zimbabwe, Australia and New Zealand respectively.
“As a team, we are yet to improve in a lot of areas. We want to bring Bangladesh brand of style cricket because we feel that we are much better-skilled hitters rather than power hitters. Those are the things we need to be aware of,” said Mahmudullah during a virtual press conference of ICC.
The right-handed batsman added that he is expecting Shakib Al Hasan will play the same role which he did against Australia and New Zealand at home recently.
“He Shakib had wonderful tournaments against Australia and New Zealand. He scored a lot of runs despite missing their last two warm-up games.
Bangladesh played two practice matches against Sri Lanka and Ireland without Mahmudullah as the team management decided to rest and some wickets under his belt and I hope he will deliver the same kind of performance in the World Cup,” he said.
Mahmudullah said that he’s optimistic to be available from the beginning of the Tigers’ world cup mission the skipper, who is currently recovering from back pain.
