Weeklong zakat fair begins Saturday

A weeklong Zakat Fair 2019 will begin in the city on Saturday with a theme of “making a difference with zakat”. Planning minister M A Mannan will inaugurate the fair at 10am at Krishibid Institute, Farmgate, said fair organising committee member-secretary A M M Nasir Uddin at a press conference on Saturday.
We have organised the zakat fair with a view to expediting socio-economic development to alleviate poverty,” said Nasir Uddin.
He urged all including the affluent section of the society to visit the fair to know about zakat in detail including actual calculation of this system.
Chairman of Centre for Zakat Management and director of Rahimafrooz Group Niaz Rahim also spoke at the press conference. During the fair, four separate sessions including a question-answer session for women will be organized. Other programmes include a seminar on ‘Role of Zakat and Tax in Reducing Income Inequalities.
A roundtable on “Importance of Ethics in Economy: The Zakat Issue” will be held at 3pm on May 4. Former Chief Election Commissioner Justice Muhammad Abdur Rouf, former minister Lt. Col. Gen. (rtd) M Nuruddin Khan, former advisers to caretaker government Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, Dr AM Mirza Md Azizul Islam, Dr Hossain Zillur Rahman, vice-chairman of Islami Bank’s consultative forum A K M Nurul Fazar Bulbul will took part in the discussion.
EXIM Bank, Rahimafrooz, Kohinoor Chemical, Mirpur Ceramics, Le Meridien, Rahim Steel, Best Holdings are sponsoring the fair. There will be a consultation desk and stalls will be set up to sell Islamic books. The fair will remain open for public from 10am to 6pm till May 10.
