Deputy Speaker Md Fazle Rabbi Mia, MP appreciated the role of painter S M Sultan and said he had depicted the life and struggles of the people of Bangladesh to a global audience through his paintings on Friday .
Rabbi said this while inaugurating a week-long festival to celebrate the 91st birth anniversary of the artist.
Sultan was born to a family of carpenters but by sheer talent and hard work rose to global fame, the deputy speaker said.
The festival includes painting competition and exhibition, volleyball competition, bamboo stick fight, kabadi, horse carriage race, cow race and other rural sports. On behalf of the Sultan Foundation a medal is given every year. This year’s medal goes to Artist Abdul Mannan.
