Webinar on ‘Mental Anxiety of Career Dev & Job Market Situation during and after Covid-19’ held

The first private university and the number one ranked private university of Bangladesh, North South University (NSU) in collaboration with Career and Placement Center (CPC) and School of Health and Life Sciences (SHLS) of NSU jointly organized a Webinar titled “Mental Anxiety of Career Development and the Job Market Situation during and after COVID-19” on Sunday last.
The event hosted representatives from Child Adolescent and Family Psychiatry National Institute of Mental Health, Bangladesh, Associate Professor, Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, as well as the Country Director of Medtronic Bangladesh Pvt. Ltd., Farrukh Alam.
Pro-ViceChancellor, NSU, Prof Dr. M. Ismail Hosaain, was present as the session chair.
While addressing the ongoing pandemic and mental health issues, Prof Dr. M. Ismail Hosaain, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, said, “Mental health is significant because it’s a vital part of our life. Everyone needs to take care of their mental health during and after Covid-19. The student should seize their available opportunity to improve their skills during the global pandemic”.
After acquainted with each other, the expert panelist Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed, in his speech, explained several aspects of maintaining mental health care for our youth during and post Covid-19 pandemic. Dr. Helal Uddin Ahmed said, “As Covid-19 sweeps across the world, it is more influencing the domestic violence, suicidal behavior, drug use, self-harm, etc. In less than six months, Covid-19 has transformed the world rapidly and disrupts and brings significant mental stress to everyone”.
Another noted Panelist, Professor Dr. Hasan Mahmud Reza, Dean (Acting), School of Health & Sciences, NSU, briefly pointed out the increased unemployment rate in Bangladesh due to the global pandemic. He said, “14% working hours have been reduced across the world, 13% of people have lost their jobs due to Covid-19.
