An online seminar participated by representatives from more than hundred IT companies of Japan and Bangladesh was organized by the Embassy of Bangladesh in Tokyo was held on Tuesday..
State Minister for ICT Mr. Zunaid Ahmed Palak was present there as chief guest to inaugurate the online B2B meeting which will continue until 05 February 2021.
The State Minister recognized the two-week long online meeting as an excellent opportunity for sharing knowledge and experience among themselves amidst Covid-19 pandemic.
He highlighted the prospects and possibilities of ICT sector of Bangladesh at the seminar.Zunaid also explained the various facilities and supports that the Bangladesh Government was offering to the Investors in the IT sector such as High-Tech Park, Tax benefits, one stop service etc.
Terming Bangladesh a suitable investment destination, he explained the rationality of investment in the IT sector of Bangladesh. He urged the Japanese IT business to consider Bangladesh while making investment decisions and recruiting skilled IT professionals.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Japan Mr. Shahabuddin Ahmed gave the welcome remark at the event. He said, Japan is closely linked with the development of Bangladesh and they share amicable relations. Marking the IT sector of Bangladesh as fast growing, he invited Japanese IT businesses to Invest there.
Later, Senior Secretary of ICT division N M Zeaul Alam, and Secretary of Commerce Ministry Dr. Md. Jafar Uddin,Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh Mr. Naoki Ito, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Bangladesh – Mr. Yuho Hayakawa, Country representative of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Bangladesh- Mr. Yuji Ando, Mr. Masayuki Osuka Co-Chairman of Japan Information Technology Services Industry Association (JISA), President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Service (BASIS) Syed Almas Kabir, and General Manager of Fujitsu Research Institute (FRI) Takeshi Imamura addressed in the seminar.
They shed light on the socio-economic scenarios and recent economic developments of Bangladesh and offered full cooperation for Japanese investors in the country’s ICT sector and invited them to invest in Bangladesh.
A presentation was made by Rashad Kabir, Director of BASIS and a video documentary showcasing the development of Bangladesh and Hi-Tech Park were screened at the event. Senior Vice President of BASIS Farhana A. Rahmanconveyed the heartfelt thanks to the participants. The program was moderated by the Commercial Counsellor of the mission Dr. Ariful Haque.
The seminar was co-organized by Embassy of Bangladesh, Tokyo; BASIS and FRI and supported by ICT Division Dhaka,Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO-Tokyo) of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and JETRO.
