Wearing face mask is now compulsory for all in Bangladesh when going out side of home as per a health ministry notification.
The Medical Education Department of the Ministry of Health on Tuesday issued the notification making compulsory for all to wear masks when they will go outside their homes.
The decision has been made as per a recommendation of the health experts to contain coronavirus on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.
The government has taken the measure when the number of Covid-19 infections are increasing day by day.
On Tuesday, the country has reported 3,057 fresh virus cases, raising the total tally to 210,510. Besides, the body count surged to 2,709 with 41 new patients dead in the last 24 hours. Public health experts said wearing face mask can reduce notable rate of Covid-19 transmissions.
According to some studies, if enough people wore face masks, even homemade coverings, it would slow the transmission of COVID-19 and prevent further waves of infection.
As people return to work in countries, mass use of face masks might help to reduce increase in transmission. South Korea and Hong Kong have managed to limit their Covid-19 transmissions without lockdown using face masks in public.
More than 50 countries worldwide, including Germany, France, Turkey, Qatar, Morocco, Poland, Uganda, Luxembourg, Argentina, Cuba, Colombia and Vietnam have made it mandatory for people to wear face masks during staying outside homes.
