Awami League mayoral candidate for the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh plans to open a hotline number for residents to call in and notify DSCC of any problems related to provision of civic services. Some problems would have instant solutions advised over the phone.
Taposh made the pledge while talking to reporters in front of BGB Gate-3 prior to campaigning in the Azimpur-New Market areas.
In case the problem was not solved through the helpline, Taposh promised an extra step that would allow the people to directly lodge complaints to him. “If I am elected, I will work for the residents of Dhaka not as a mayor but as a servant for 24 hours,” he said.
The mayoral candidate explained that services will be taken to the people’s doorstep as they will be able to call him directly through the help-line if the problem still persists.
“As an orgranisation, DSCC provides services. Therefore, we will be engaged to provide service 7 days a week, 24 hours a day,” Taposh assured.
Mentioning the five objectives (beautiful, dynamic, well-governed and modern Dhaka), the mayoral candidate said that he will build Dhaka as a beautiful, livable city besides keeping it neat and clean.
“Garbage will not be kept uncovered in the streets. We will plant trees and exterminate mosquitoes on a daily basis. Dhaka city will become a place we can be proud of,” he stated.
Taposh, who resigned as MP of the Dhaka-10 constituency that falls within the jurisdiction of the South City Corporation, made the claim that “nobody had come up with any plans to solve the problems of Old Dhaka”. “The basic civic amenities for all the residents of the city will be ensured within 90 days of taking charge,” he added.
According to Taposh, Dhaka residents have warmly accepted the outline for development under the ‘boat’ symbol and he plans to preserve the traditions of the capital and allow them to prosper.
He called on the leaders and activists of the ruling party to campaign for him in a disciplined manner in line with the code of conduct formulated by the Election Commission.
