THE 100th birth anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being celebrated across Bangladesh. The government has taken up a 10-day programme that will end with the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh’s Independence on March 26. The people loved him and he loved the people who trusted to be always on his side.
He was a great orator and a charmer. Anybody came in contact with him was amazed by his quality of human touch and generosity of mind.
But after the death of the founder of Awami League and his father like idol leader Mr Suhrawardy and dear Manik Bhai Bangabandhu became politically extremely lonely. He did not know who to turn to for right advice. Whatever the greedy sycophants, who even did not see him or work with him say, the cruel Bangladesh of plunderers and looters is not Bangabandhu’s Sonar Bangla.
Lies cannot come easily to those who really loved and respected Bangabandhu. He was a good and great soul but those who have commercialised politics to deprive people of public money for personal gain cannot be Bangabandhu’s followers.
Those who bluffed Bangabandhu about popular uprising and helped him to be the prisoner in West Pakistan in fact removed him from the political leadership when his presence was most vital. They went to India first for their own safety. They knew there could not be any popular uprising without Bangabandhu’s leadership. Other senior Awami League leaders also left the country in the very evening of 25th March 1971 when Pakistan army moved trigger happy against our people and massacred men, women and children freely for nine months till we were freed.
Bangabandhu does not need thieves and exploiters of people to show how great he was and how much the people loved him. He fell victim to treachery and duplicity from brutal Pakistan junta and other sources including many of those who were near him.
Not only Bangabandhu along with many of his family members met the saddest end inconceivable but the people of Bangladesh also have become a sad story in his absence.
