DHAKA North City Corporation (DNCC) Mayor Annisul Huq was laid to rest at city’s Banani Graveyard Saturday afternoon. He was a highly loved and admired Mayor with many faced visionary ideas and thoughts how to bring change to city life and in many other aspects at national level. He was a hard working man acceptable to all. He had the outreach to every people beyond political line. Annisul Haq was also a successful businessman and TV entertainment programme presenter in his early career. He was known for strong personality and fearless decisions at critical time.
Elder brother of present Army Chief of Staff, he was elected DNCC Mayor in April 2015. In two years time he proved to be an able city father when the city started to wear changes in many respects. His two programme to create a green city and clean town earned admiration from all. We can’t fail to mention he was one who could imbibe the younger generation to dream for better at a time when most public leaders in our country were corrupt, selfish and inaccessible to people.
He introduced a new style to involve city people in major decision making process at local level. His death came as a big shock and loss to the city dwellers and to the entire nation. We feel very sad at his early demise and joined the people to mourn his death. May God rest his soul in peace!
The huge public gathering at his Namaz-e-Zanaza in city’s Army Stadium, which at a time spread beyond on the road proved how popular he was to people during his lifetime. Mentionably, the condolences from the President and Prime Minister and political leaders from all parties and socio-cultural organizations show the high place of love and respect he had won during his short-lived but exciting career. He had the potentials to serve the country in many other capacities but the death snatched him as he fell ill in London with a sudden cerebral vasculitis illness. He was treated at London’s Wellington Hospital over the past three months and lost the battle for life.
Dhaka North City is a witness to what he had started to improve the city life. We can now only hope that any one who will take over the mantle of the late Mayor will continue his work without failing. The ideal he left behind is hard work and dedication to serve people holding public position. Besides being Mayor he was a leading businessman. Thus one can say that late Mr Annisul Huq was an achiever and an inspiration for others. His good example should be followed by others.
