Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam has said they haven’t prepared any list of persons who used to go to Pori Moni and other detained models’ houses for their personal interests. He gave the assurance on Monday following a barrage of complaints from some affluent persons that criminals have become busy in extorting fat amount of money photoshopping their images with women’s photos.
Detectives and Rapid Action Battalion personnel have recently arrested film actress Pori Moni, model girls Faria Mahabub Piyasha and Mariam Akhter Mou, business-woman Helena Zahangir in separate raids. In the same way, agency officials recovered liquor bottles and synthetic drugs from their possession. The police are investigating their possible links to underworld crime gangs. These activities are not necessarily organised by underworld criminals. These are places for affluent pleasure seekers.
It is very hard to understand for the people why our law enforcement agencies have taken such a programme of publicity raids at the residences of some female models and a film actress of a different world for easy money makers. Such activities are not considered crimes for which our police will spend sleepless nights only to create new avenues of corruption.
Showing total disregard to health safety rules, huge contingents of police personnel gathered and arranged a public show as if they have done a big worthy job. Everybody thinks people are fools and they do not understand such silly games. These events were telecast live to draw the attention of common people before the court finds them guilty of any crime.
It has become too ordinary to find alcoholic drinks, drugs and even small weapons. The law for searching is not followed. The police have to obtain search warrants from the court. Before entering a house few local respectable persons must accompany them. Otherwise police entry will be trespass which is a crime. The materials collected will not be acceptable evidence.
Let us prove we are a serious nation capable of doing jobs seriously.
