Coach of Bangladesh National Hockey team Mahbub Harun said: We are prepared for the ensuing Hero Asia Cup Hockey. Mahbub Harun spoke at a press conference at the Dutch-Bangla Bank Auditorium in Bangladesh Olympic Association Bhaban on Thursday.
Captain of Bangladesh National Hockey team Russell Mahmud Jimmy, President of Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) and Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Md Abu Esrar also spoke at the press conference. General Secretary of BHF Abdus Sadeque, Managing Director of First Security Islami Bank Limited Syed Wasek Md Ali, Deputy-Managing Director of Islami Bank Bangladesh Limited Abu Reza Mohammad Yahiya, Chairman of the Hero Asia Cup Hockey Organizing Committee Shafiullah Al Munir were also present at the conference, among others. The jersey unveiling programme was also held at the same venue on the same day.
Mahmub Harun said, ” We have worked about game plan, fitness in our practice sessions. If we get good result in our first match, we shall perform well in the rest of our matches.
Russell Mahmud Jimmy said, ” After 32 years, the Asia Cup Hockey is going to stage our country. We are prepared for the tournament. We have been trained according to the plan of our coach. If we perform well, we can achieve a good result. We can bring a good result if we play according to our game plan.”
Md Abu Esrar said, ” We are going to stage a gala extravaganza. After 32 years, the Asia Cup Hockey will be held in Bangladesh. A total of eight teams are taking part in the hockey meet. Bangladesh team are one of them. Bangladesh team have to win the first match. If they cannot win the first match, the players have to win the next match. The team have to show combined performance. No one should perform individually.”
A total of eight teams splitting into two groups will take part in the Hero Asia Cup Hockey, which will begin on October 11 and will come to an end on October 22. All the matches will be held at the Moulana Bhashani National Hockey Stadium. The sports Ministry provided floodlight for the tournament.
Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, Japan are in Pool-A, while Malaysia, Korea, China, Oman are in Pool-B.
Bangladesh will take on Pakistan on October 11, face India on October 13 and meet Japan on October 15.
