WDF vital means of women political empowerment

Proper and effective functioning of the Women Development Forum (WDF) could be the vital means of making the public representatives and rural womenfolk as whole politically and economically empowered besides elevating their living and livelihood condition.
WDF is also important for strengthening decision-making capacities of the grassroots public representatives coupled with eliminating all sorts of discrimination. This is the high time to enhance capacity of female public representatives besides empowering there ability of equal partners in development.
The observations came yesterday in a divisional level workshop titled “Future Planning, Learning and Experience Sharing of WDF” held at conference room of Circuit House in Rajshahi.
Upazila Governance Project (UZGP) of Local Government Division (LGD) organized the workshop in association with Commissioner Office of Rajshahi division.
Sixty-seven upazila level WDF Presidents (who are also Female Vice-chairmen of upazila parishads) from all 67 upazilas and other officials concerned from eight districts in the division attended the workshop.
The main objective of arranging the workshop was to share the learning, experience and
successes achieved by WDFs, future action plans and fixing strategies for running activities of WDFs as associate bodies of upazila parishads.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Abdul Hannan addressed the workshop as chief guest while Additional Commissioners Munir Hossain and Aminul Islam and Deputy Commissioner Kazi Ashraf Uddin spoke as special guests with Shyam Kishore Roy, Director of Local Government Divisional, in the chair.
Rafiqul Islam, Divisional Facilitator of UZGP, delivered keynote presentation narrating
goals and objectives of the UZGP, successes achieved by WDFs and suggestions for further strengthening activities and enhancing capacities of WDFs.
He also discussed about various steps taken by the present government in flourishing women leadership, successes achieved in socioeconomic and political empowerment and development of the women in the country.
Chief Guest Abdul Hannan said participation and representation of the women in overall
national development, socioeconomic and political activities had been increasing under
leadership of Prime Minsiter Sheikh Hasina to attain the SDGs.
He asked the Female Upazila Vice-chairmen to ensure female education and prevent child marriage to flourish leadership of women and their empowerment in attaining the SDGs to build a middle income Bangladesh by 2021 and developed nation by 2041.
