In the last few days, there has been a massive erosion of the river Teesta at Char Gokunda in Gokunda Union of Sadar Upazila Lalmonirhat. Jyoti Prasad Ghosh, Rangpur Divisional Chief Engineer, Water Development Board (WDB), visited the Teesta River erosion area at noon on Thursday. He visited the river bank of Char Gokunda village by boat. He said steps would be taken to ensure that the houses of mosques, educational institutions and shelter projects, which were under threat of demolition, were not demolished. He spoke to the people affected by the local demolition.
Rangpur Municipal Circle Supervising Engineer Abdus Shahid, Lalmonirhat Water Development Board Executive Engineer Mizanur Rahman, Gokunda Union Parishad Chairman Golam Mostafa Swapan, Deputy Assistant Engineer Muhibul Islam and other officials of the Water Development Board were present during the visit.
