The World Cup Football 2022 qualification stage has reached such stage that it may be possible to say that Iran are almost sure to qualify as they are eight points ahead of the group’s third placed team Lebanon with five more matches in hands.
From the group the other team that has chance to sail are South Korea who have 11 points in the bag so far. The Group A standing are Iran 13 points, South Korea 11, Lebanon 5, Iraq 4, UAE 3 and Syria 2. It is hard to say which team will occupy third position to keep hope alive.
In Group B, Saudi Arabia lead the table with 13 points, followed by Australia 10, Japan 9, Oman 5, China four and Vietnam 0. It can be said that Oman, China and Vietnam are already out of race, while Saudi Arabia have bright prospect to qualify without play-off.
The first two teams from each group will directly cruise into the World Cup final round to be held in Qatar in 2023. While the two third placed teams will meet each other in the play-off to be the fifth qualifier from Asia.
