With a view to perform several development works including building 5 roads and drains in Khulna city, World Bank (WB) will donate Tk 36 crore. This donation will come through Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund (BMDF), sources said.
Within a few days, tender will be invited for renovation works of 5 main roads including KDA Avenue and Moheswarpasha main road in Khulna city and also for making drains at both sides of the roads. In the month of March, 2019, the development works are likely to be started, sources added.
KCC sources said, the discussion with WB had been going on since 2013 for implementation of some structural works including renovation of roads and Kachabazars in Khulna with the fund assistance of WB. The organisation agreed to give the same for making markets at two places (Khulna Sadar & Khalishpur areas) and for the renovation works of roads in Khulna. But 5 years needed to complete all the formalities. At first stage, WB has agreed to give Tk36 crore for renovating 5 roads of Khulna and suggested to invite tender in this regard.
Md. Liakot Ali Khan, Executive Engineer, Division-2 of KCC said, the process was hanging in the last 5 years, but after taking charge, the present KCC Mayor Talukdar Abdul Khalek, the project gets its speed.
Tender for the development works will be invited in two packages. Among them, at first package, Daulatpur Moheswarpasha main road, Khalishpur 18 No. road and Charerhat main road will be renovated. Apart from these, RCC ‘U’ shed drain beside Moheswarpasha main road, side drain at Khalishpur 18 No. road and walkway along with drain will also be made at Charerhat area of Khalishpur. The approximate cost for this package is fixed Tk 17 crore 90 lakh.
On the other hand, at the second package, KDA Avenue and Abu Ahmed road of 25 No. Ward of KCC will be renovated and drain will be made afresh. Approximate cost of this package is fixed Tk 18 crore 86 lakh.
Executive Engineer (Ex-En) of Division-3 of KCC Moshiuzzaman Khan will monitor the development works.
Ex-En Moshiuzzaman Khan said, under the second package, at both sides of KDA Avenue one meter wide drain and footpath will be made afresh from Shibbari Intersection to Hotel Royal International Intersection and 1866 meters road will be renovated.
Mhammad Hossain, assistant Engineer of KCC, assigned for monitoring BMDF project said, After beginning the works of these 5 roads, other works of the project will also be started gradually. He said adding that World Bank will also aid by giving fund for making a multi-storied building at Khalishpur Chitralibazar and two multi-storied buildings at Sheikhparabazar.
Apart from these, for renovation of some more roads, financial assistance was sought to the World Bank, he further added.
Sheikh Mohammad Ali, 5 No. Ward Councilor of KCC ( Who is also a Teachers’ leader and Vice President of Daulatpur Thana unit Awami League) said, We, the Khulna inhabitants are very happy for the continuation of the ongoing development works in the southern region like other parts of the country by the successful Awami League Government under the effective leadership of the Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, efficient daughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, father of the Nation.
Md Mizanur Rahman Milton, a Sramik League leader of Daulatpur in Khulna city said, we salute the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina because she has been taking forward the country by manifolds development works which are continuing.
