WB may consider funding 3rd Shitalakhya Bridge

The World Bank (WB) may consider funding the planned 3rd Shitalakhya bridge near Narayanganj, WB country director in Bangladesh Jonathan Zutt said here yesterday.Zutt made this comment after Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) Mayor Dr. Salina Hayat Ivy requested for WB funding to some of the NCC’s development and infrastructure projects including the Shitalakha bridge. Zutt was visiting the river port city to see the WB-funded development projects in the NCC area. Zutt said the WB would fund more development projects in city corporations and municipalities across the country.”Funding the Shitalakha bridge in Narayanganj City Corporation area is also under active consideration of the World Bank,” he said.Referring to the WB’s funding policy, the country director said the Bank would continue its support to the development projects provided with that the transparency in spending and implementation must be ensured.The government earlier identified sixteen major bridges for construction on priority basis. The 3rd Shitalakha bridge is the major one among the 16 bridges.
