The government has sought financing from the World Bank (WB) to set up new technology labs in the universities and a Research and Development (R&D) Center in Dhaka to promote innovation.
“We have a plan to set up technology labs in the universities and R & D Center in Dhaka for promoting innovation and the WB can provide financial assistance to materialize the plan,” Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Division Secretary Shyam Sunder Sikder told a WB delegation during meeting with him at his office here yesterday.
The three-member WB delegation headed by Task Team Leader and Senior ICT Policy Specialist Siou Chew Kuek appreciated the government’s various initiatives in line with its plan to build Digital Bangladesh aimed at boosting the country’s ICT sector.
The WB delegation called upon the government to make the ICT policy time befitting as digitization is progressing fast and e-services are being introduced for quick delivery of public services to the people.
The time befitting ICT policy would actually help introducing National Enterprise Architecture (NEA) that required to bring uniformity of in operation of the IT system for its different ministries, organizations and directorates, they said.
The ICT secretary said that his ministry has already taken initiative to revise the amended ICT policy 2013 and accordingly the government would bring some amendments and incorporate of new things which are necessary to make the policy time befitting.
