A wave of happiness prevails among the people of Pirganj upazila as it has worn a festive look ahead of the scheduled visit of Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina for election campaign today (Sunday).
The common people are waiting for PM’s visit to Pirganj municipal town to listen to her speech at a rally as the incumbent government implemented unprecedented development works in the last ten years benefiting every citizen of the district.
Similarly, the people of Taraganj upazila are waiting to welcome the PM and listen to her speech at a huge public rally to be held on Taraganj Degree College ground on Sunday noon on her way to Pirganj from Syedpur Airport. Acting President of Pirganj upazila Awami League (AL) Azizur Rahman Ranga and its General Secretary and Pirganj municipality Mayor Tazimul Islam Shamim told media that adequate steps were taken to welcome the PM and make the public rally a grand success.
The PM will go to Laldighee Fatehpur village directly after arriving in Pirganj from Taraganj to meet her family members and offer Fateha at the grave of her husband nuclear scientist Dr MA Wazed Miah at the family graveyard.
Later, Sheikh Hasina will address a huge public rally to be arranged by Pirganj upazila AL on Pirganj Government School ground seeking vote for the symbol ‘Boat’ in favour of AL candidate and Speaker of the Jatiya Sangshad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the afternoon.
Tazimul Islam Shamim will moderate the public rally that will also be attended by central leaders of AL and grand alliance, district and upazila level leaders of AL and its associate bodies. Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is contesting the 11th national election from Rangpur-6 (Pirganj) consistency and she is the incumbent Member of the Parliament now since she was elected in the by-election of the tenth national election from the same constituency. “Around 2 lakh people are expected to attend the Pirganj rally from Pirganj municipality, all 15 unions and wards of Pirganj upazila side by side the leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies from all nearby districts,” Tazimul said.
Centering the visit of Prime Minister to Pirganj, enthusiastic local leaders and workers of AL and its associate bodies are conducting door to door campaign at grassroots level, creating a festive atmosphere. Led by Organising Secretary of AL BM Mozammel Haque, dozens of teams comprising leaders of AL and its associate bodies are making public contacts seeking vote for ‘Boat’ in favour of Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury allover Pirganj upazila.
AL’s major development works implemented during the last ten years in Pirganj upazila include – reaching electricity to every house, setting up Marine Academy and Textile Engineering College, Dr Wazed Miah Bridge, Fire Service Station, Pirganj municipality and creating employments for women in the district.
General Secretary of district AL Advocate Rezaul Karim Razu said PM’s visit has created huge enthusiasm among the people of the upazila. Talking to media on Saturday, officials in the district administration informed that all necessary preparations, including security measures, have been completed to make the Prime Minister’s visit to Pirganj a success.
