Chittagong Port Authority has created new history in supplying pure drinking water to Port residential area and the foreign vessels coming in port .
The new water treatment plant of CPA is the new milestone of the port. CPA first ever installed a water treatment plant having producing capacity of 9 thousand metric tons water at a cost of Tk.24 crores.
Out of total demands of the port area and foreign vessels of 6,800 tons, Chittgong WASA would supply only 3.7tons water only and hence water consumers in port residential area would face severe scarcity on Friday and Saturday .
Moreover , lack of water supply in foreign vessels, the reputation of CP would undermined abroad. In order to fulfill the demands of pure drinking water to residents and foreign vessels, CPA signed a deal with M/s ABM Ultimar Joint Ventures Ltd for installing water treatment plant in port area at a cost of Tk.24 crores on February 2013 and the project work completed within one year.
Ports and shipping minister Md.Shahjahan MP inaugurated the plant operation in March last, a sources said.
This plant is using the salty water of river Karnaphuli and rain water and after treating this water , is being supplied to residential consumers of port officials and foreign vessels.
Now this plant is producing about 9 thousand metric tons water daily, a sources said.
