Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tajul Islam said Dhaka WASA and other organizations are supplying water all over the country incessantly amid Covid-19 pandemic.
He made the remarks on Monday while participating in an online workshop titled ‘Experience Sharing of Covid-19 Impact by Dhaka WASA’ organized by the Asian Development Bank-ADB’s headquarters in Manila, Philippines, from the Ministry office room, an official release said.
“Health experts have been advising everyone to wash their hands frequently with soap to prevent themselves from getting infected by the deadly virus,” said Tajul.
He said it was a big challenge for the water supply companies including Dhaka WASA to meet the increasing demand of water in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.
“With the tireless efforts of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, at present more than 98 percent of the people in the country have access to potable water,” Tajul said.
Since coronavirus was identified in Bangladesh, the government has taken necessary steps for all levels of the people to mitigate their sufferings caused by the pandemic, the minister added.
During the workshop, the minister thanked ADB for organizing such a programme and urged the ADB to extend their ongoing cooperation to Bangladesh in various fields including environment, climate change, water supply and sanitation.
At the workshop, Taksim A Khan, Managing Director of Dhaka WASA, also presented a paper highlighting the overall water supply situation of Dhaka WASA.
The workshop was attended by 160 water experts from different countries including Bangladesh.
