Water crisis in city’s several areas

City dwellers have been suffering from water crisis in several areas for days together.
The areas include Gandaria, Jurain, Lalbagh and Sabujbagh.
People cannot say when the situation will improve.
On Friday, number of worshippers failed to make ablutions before Jumma prayers in several Masjids including Gandaria Station Masjid as there was no water in pipes.
Housewives and office going people suffer most from the crisis.
The females failed to cook foods and wash cloths and dishes for several days.
“It is unbearable pain that I cannot wash my baby’s cloths due to lack of water supply. How can I take care of my kids when numbers of unclean cloths are piled besides the door of washroom? Those cloths are spreading stink in the house,” said Arifa Begum from DIT plot of Ganadria.
She said quoting the house owner that water is inadequate from Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (WASA). As such, what can be done?
“But I do not know who is liable for the crisis, I need to get water in time so that I can do my household work in time,” the house wife said.
When asked house owner Yusuf Ahmed told The New Nation, “I have tried my utmost to provide water to all my tenants and similarly for my own family. I have tried almost whole night to fill my under surface water tanks, but failed due to very poor
water supply in WASA pipe.”
He said that it is not acceptable in the rainy season.
The house owner said that he asked all tenants to keep water in several pots and drums to use day long.
He also requested all to use low water as the supply is really short.
Muhammad Zilani, a private service holder, living in Meerhazirbagh area, said that they are in severe water crisis in his area.
The office going people are being compelled to leave home in morning without taking a shower due to lack of water in supply, frequently. It is really painful, he alleged.
Ratna Begum a house wife of Meerhazirbagh said, “I and all others in the area are facing acute problems everyday that we cannot cook our daily meals in time due to water crisis for last several days. I cannot bear my children’s hunger stricken face only for shortage of water supply.”
She asked the concern authority to eliminate the problem soon.
Zannat Ahmed Bhuiyan, a private service holder from Sabujbagh told The Nation that people of his area also are suffering from acute water shortage.
“There is serious shortage of line water in Sabujbagh. We are facing the pain every day morning. The house owner provides a little water once a day which is very low comparatively our needs,” he said.
People from Lalbagh area are getting WASA water from the agency’s water vehicles frequently due to shortage of supply in pipes.
When contacted, Engineer Taqsem A. Khan, the Managing Director of the WASA told The New Nation that there may something problem has been created in the local pumps.
“I will investigate the matter seriously,” he assured.
