A three day workshop on treatment of water and waste water jointly organized by Department of Chemistry of Dhaka University (DU) and Bangladesh Chemical Society (BCS) has begun today on Friday at the Mukarram Hussain Khundaker Biggan Bhaban of the university. DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the workshop as chief guest.
Chairman of the Institute of Chemists and Chemical Technologies, Bangladesh (ICCTB) and President of Bangladesh Chemical Society Prof Dr Jasim Uddin Ahmed presided over the opening ceremony of the workshop. Honorary Director General of ICCTB Prof Dr Abu Jafar Mahmood welcomed the participants while vote of thanks was delivered by Vice chancellor of Pabna University of Science and Technology and General Secretary of Bangladesh Chemical Society Prof Dr Al-Nakib Chowdhury. Dr Md Mominul Islam, MC Executive of ICCTB has been working as Coordinator of the workshop.
Prof Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique said, “Water is life and there is no alternative of water. Water is mandatory for all living beings of the universe. There can’t be any existence of life without water.” ‘However, we should play our respective roles to stop wasting water’, he added.
The VC hoped that this workshop will come up with important recommendations and strategies for optimum utilization of water and suggests solutions for water-contaminated diseases.
