Waste products of the hand and power looms in Belkuchi upazila particularly at village Tamai in Sirajgonj district have been creating health hazards in the area.
It is gathered that there are atleast 50 thousand looms in the village Tamai. The looms products are high quality products which are being exported to foreign countries.
Chemicals are being used in the looms. These chemicals make the water bodies like ponds, Cannels and nearby rivers polluted. Men and animals cannot use these polluted water which create various diseases to the men and animals. Even the lives which live in the water could not survive due to chemicals which polluted the water people of the areas complains that they cannot use even tube well water. The inhabitants of the area fell victims of the contaminated water. Even the cattle heads have reportedly been suffering from various stomach and skin diseases.
Public Health Department sources disclosed that innumerable people. It is gathered that at the time of rainy season, the polluted water floods the nearby cultivable lands damaging crops.
People of the area urge immediate steps by the concern authorities to save them and cattle heads.
