The Mayor of Washington DC has declared the Bangladesh’s Independence and National Day as the “Bangladesh Day”, according to a press release of Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, received here on Thursday.
A representative of the Mayor Muriel Bowser formally conveyed the decision to Bangladesh Ambassador to the United States Mohammad Ziauddin at the Independence Day reception at the embassy, organised on Wednesday evening.
The proclamation said that on this day people of Bangladesh remember the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and the valor of the freedom fighters that led to the independence of their country.
It said that the US Department of State has already cited Bangladesh as “a global example of a democratic, tolerant, pluralistic, and moderate nation” whose friendship matters to the United States.
Referring to the contribution of Bangladesh embassy to the cultural
diversity of the District of Colombia, the mayor congratulated the ambassador
and all the people of Bangladesh on this special occasion, and declared March
26 as “Bangladesh Day”.
