Court Correspondent :
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday issued warrants to arrest of three persons, including BNP’s Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman, in the sedition case filed against four persons in 2015.
Magistrate Sarafuzzaman Ansari of the CMM Court issued the arrest warrant, taking into
cognizance the charge sheet of the case submitted against four accused, including Tareque Rahman and ETV Chairman Abdus Salam.
Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Imdadul Haque, and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the CMM Court accusing the four persons on September 6.
Two other accused are Mahathir Farooki Khan, the then Chief Reporter of ETV and Kanak Sarwar, the then Special Correspondent of the private TV channel. Tareque, Mahathir Farooki Khan and Kanak Sarwar were shown fugitives in the charge sheet while Abdus Salam is now in the jail.
The court directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Tejgaon Model Police Station to submit a report about the arrest of the trio on November 1.
On January 8, 2015, the sedition case was filed with Tejgaon Model Police Model Station in connection with the live telecast of an allegedly provocative speech of Tarique
Rahman, that he gave at a programme in London on January 5.
According to the case docket, Salam in collusion with others of ETV broadcast the speech of the BNP leader that instigated his party men to create anarchic situation in the country that time.
Abdus Salam committed similar offence broadcasting Tareque’s ‘provocative’ speech live, from London, which allegedly posed a threat to the sovereignty of the country. He was arrested on January 6, 2015 and he made confessional statement in court in the case admitting charges brought against him. Tareque has been in London since September 11, 2008 for his medical treatment.
