Warrant against SI Ratan for sexual abuse of varsity girl

The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-4 of Dhaka on Tuesday issued arrest warrant against Adabar Police Station, Sub-Inspector (SI) Ratan Kumar Howlader on charge of sexually harassing a female university student in the city.
Judge Saleh Uddin Ahmed of the court passed the order after taking into cognizance the judicial probe report that was sent to his court on February 10 from the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka.
On February 01, Farhana Akhter, a first-year student of ASA University filed the case against Ratan Kumar. Later, Metropolitan Magistrate Emdadul Haque recorded the depositions of five witnesses including the victim’s husband and her mother to submit the probe report that found the allegation of sexually harassing the victim true.
The student told the court in her complaint that SI Ratan Kumar and two police constables stopped her rickshaw in front of Japan Garden City on January 31 (Sunday) when she was on her way to a bookstall at Nurjahan Road and started accusing her of being a Yaba peddler.
The victim also alleged that the policemen then took her to a nearby electronics shop and searched her vanity bag and harassed her sexually.
Ratan Kumar was put on suspension on the same day in connection with the incident and the court ordered the judicial investigation into the incident of sexual harassment.
