Court Correspondent :
A Dhaka court yesterday issued arrest warrant against BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas and 19 others in two separate arson cases filed with Mirpur Police Station of the city in June 2010.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mahbubur Rahman of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order. Before that, the court framed charges against 46 people, including the 20 accused. The court also fixed November 25 to begin
formal trial with recording the depositions of the witnesses.
The arrest warrant was issued as 20 accused did not appear in the court on Sunday. The court also directed the Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Police Station to submit a report on the execution of the arrest order by October 10.
The brief prosecution story says, when a group of leaders and activists of the then BNP-led 18-party alliance brought out a procession in the city’s Mirpur area on June 26, 2010, miscreants torched some vehicles and conducted vandalism in the area.
