Warrant against Janakantha Editor, 2 others

The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Monday issued warrants of arrest for the Daily Janakantha Editor Atiqullah Khan Masud, the daily’s Advisory Editor Toab Khan and Executive Editor Swadesh Roy in a case for non-compliance of the court’s order.
Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty of the CMM Court issued the arrest warrant on Monday as the accused persons did not appear to the court in compliance with its earlier order in the case filed for publishing ‘defamatory’ remarks about the
Chief Justice Surenda Kumar Sinha. Earlier on February 22, the same court summoned them to it on March 21 after the President of Dhaka Metropolitan Bar Association Arfan Uddin Khan lodged the case on February 22.
In the case statement, the complainant mentioned that the daily published two articles on February 4 on the Chief Justice which were ‘false and defamatory’.
A court here on Monday issued a warrant for the arrest of Daily Janakantha Editor Atiqullah Khan Masud and two others in a case filed for publishing ‘defamatory’ reports on Chief Justice SK Sinha.
