Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court of Dhaka yesterday issued warrant of arrest against 23 BNP men, including its joint Secretary General Barkatullah Bulu and journalist leader Shawkat Mahmud, in two cases filed with Rampura Police Station of the city.
Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Mollah of the court took cognizance of the charge sheets and passed the order.
The other leaders against whom warrants were issued include BNP Chairperson’s Press Secretary Maruf Kamal Khan, Chairperson’s personal secretary Shimul Biswas, BNP leaders Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel, Shafiul Bari, Mir Sharafat Ali and Shirin Sultana.
The two cases were filed during the indefinite blockade programme enforced by the BNP-led 20 party alliance in the city’s Rampura area in February, 2015.
Police filed the case under the Explosive Substances Act and the Special Power Act. Later in March, 2015, police submitted the charge-sheets of the cases accusing 41 people.
