Poush’s winter just begins. The mild winter that started late at night and the foggy morning dew in the early morning signaled the onset of winter in nature.Even though there is a hint of winter in the morning, the sun shines in the sky as the day progresses. The severity of the cold weather has made the city dwellers feel interested in buying winter clothes.
However, huge stocks of winter clothes have been noticed in the markets of Chattogram Low-income people are buying winter clothes from sidewalk shops.
The city’s popular second hand cloth market named Jahur Hawkers Market, New Market surrounding area, Station Road, Chowkbazar were visited by buyers of winter clothes.
The sidewalk shops now have winter clothes instead of other clothes. There are also sweaters, jackets, blankets and warm trousher etc.
The sellers said that the buying and selling is fair.
They say there is an adequate supply of winter clothes in the market this time. The price is also a bit lower than last year.
Jahur Hawkers market trader Moinuddin Babul has kept the ordinary clothes in the godown and decorated the shop with winter clothes. He was also seen in a winter trading.
He said, ‘I picked up all the winter clothes, but the winter has not come yet. The warm clothes market is cold.
Another trader, Osmanul Haque, said, “Sales are very low.
Those who are coming are thinking of buying at a lower price. It’s not too cold, so buyers don’t want to buy clothes.
Meanwhile, seasonal traders are in trouble. Many people are selling products at a much lower price than expected just to raise capital.
One such person, Joynal Abedin, said he had come to Chatttogram to sell winter clothes, hats, socks and mufflers in the hope of making a little more profit from Anwara, but was thinking of returning after seeing the market conditions.
Hawkers market trader Liakat said shoppers who are out of town are buying winter clothes. But those who live in the city are not buying winter clothes that way.
Besides, floating van carts are seen abundant in road side during weekly holidays with various types of children wares at very nomimal fixed price like Tk. 20 , Tk.30 etc.
