A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee died after being run over by a water tanker of WASA near the Baldha Garden in the city’s Wari area on Monday.  
Abir Hossain, student of Wari High School, was killed in the accident which occurred around 10am on Monday. He lived with his family in Joykali Mandir area.
Confirming the matter, Wari Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Zahir Hossain said, they have detained the tanker driver and seized the vehicle. “The students went to the school to attend their farewell ceremony before the examination, which is scheduled to start on February 3.
Abir was run over by the water tanker when he was standing on the road. Police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College for an autopsy.
According to police and locals, the lorry entered the main road with water from the WASA water pump near Baldha Garden.
The victim was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
Meanwhile, the students of Wari High School blocked the road in protest of death. Centering the block, a gridlock was created in the area.
DMP’s Wari Division Assistant Commissioner (Patrol) Md Ziaul Alam said that the vehicular movement in the area became normal after the students moved away from the road.
Huge number of policemen have been deployed on the spot, the AC said.
