Unidentified criminals stabbed to death an Awami League (AL) supported Ward Councillor of Gopalpur Municipality in Natore district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Jamilur Rahman Jamil, 37, Councillor of Ward No. 8 of the Municipality in Lalpur upazila, report our Natore Correspondent quoting Nazrul Islam Jewel, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Lalpur Police Station.
Miscreants attacked Jamil when he was returning to his house around 1:00pm soon after holding a human chain in Gopalpur Bazar area, which was formed demanding justice for the murder of a Jubo League (JL) man named Jahirul, the police official said.
Jamil was one of the key accused in the case filed in connection with the murder of Jubo League man Jahirul, the OC said.
Unknown criminals attacked Jamil with sharp weapons leaving him critically injured, the OC said. He was rushed to Lalpur Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.
Law enforcers were deployed in the area following the incident as a tense situation was prevailing there.
