A Dhaka court yesterday placed Ward Councillor Habibur Rahman Mizan on seven-day remand in a case lodged over Money- Laundering Prevention Act.
Investigation officer and CID inspector Giasuddin produced Mizan before court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khayer Jessy and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand. Mizan’s counsel however, moved his bail plea. After hearing both the sides, the court placed Mizan on seven-day remand.
Mizan, councillor of Ward No-32 was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on early October 11 from Sreemangal of Moulvibazar. RAB later filed two cases against him under arms and money-laundering acts. RAB sources said the accused amassed huge wealth though illegal activities including running casino in the city. He was trying to flee the country amid the ongoing anti-graft raids.
