Police on Thursday morning recovered the slit-throat body of Sumon Zahid, 52, a witness of war crime case and son of martyred journalist Selina Parvin, on the rail track at Khilgaon Bagicha in Dhaka.
A resident of Uttar Shahjahanpur, Suman Zahid was the key witness
against convicted war criminals Chowdhury Mueen Uddin and Ashrafuzzaman Khan in the case filed in connection with the killing of intellectuals in December 1971.
A team of Kamalapur Railway Police Station recovered the body from near the railway tracks in Khilgaon Bagicha area around 10:00am, Yasin Faruk, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhaka Railway Police Station told the media.
They recovered the body based on the information from Shahjahanpur Police Station, the OC said.
Victim’s brother-in-law ATM Emdadul Haque Bulbul told reporters at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) that Suman was called out at around 9:30 in the morning.
“Who is the person who took him from the house of North Shajahanpur at 9:30 in the morning. After some time he was killed and we found his (Somun) body near the railway track.”
Emdadul Haque also said, “Somun was threatened in different ways before. For the last two years he had received many threats. So, we think he has been killed in a planned manner.”
The deceased’s brother Sarwar said Sumon Zahid was the Second Officer of Shantinagar Branch of Farmers Bank. His village house is in Feni district.
Sumon Zahid has two children. Elder one is in HSC second year student of T & T College while another one is a class seven student of Ideal School.
People who threatened him with life earlier for being the witness in the war crimes case, might have killed him, family members alleged.
