Walton Rating Chess GM Rakib becomes champion

GM Abdullah Al-Rakib of Bangladesh Navy became champion in the Walton International Rating Chess Tournament sponsored by electronics and home appliance manufacturer company renowned brand Walton and organised by Bangladesh Chess Federation on Friday. The competition was held at the Bangladesh Chess Federation hall-room.
Rakib earned maximum 8 points and became champion before last round game. FM Mehdi Hasan Parag of Leonine Chess Club is in 2nd position with 7 points and Mohammed Enayet Hossain of Fire-Service is in 3rd position with 6½ points.
Ten players are sharing 4th position with 6 points each. They are: FM Syed Mahfuzur Rahman Emon, FM Mohammad Javed, Golam Mostafa Bhuiyan, CM Mahtabuddin Ahmed, Uten, Abdullah Al-Saif, Faisal Hossain, Anisuzzaman Jewel, Subrata Biswas and S M Sharon.
The 8th round games were held yesterday (Friday).
In the 8th round games: Rakib beat Javed, Parag beat Mostafa, Enayet drew with Faisal, Emon beat Matiur Rahman Mamun, Uten beat Khondakar Nazre Mowla, Saif beat Avik Sarker, Mahtab beat Rabiul, Jewel beat Belal Hossain, Subrata beat Mujibur Rahman and Sharon beat Golam Rasul Bhuiyan.
The 9th or last round games will start today (Saturday) from 10.00 am at the same venue and prize-distribution ceremony will be held after last round games. First Senior Additional Director of Walton F M Iqbal Bin Anwar Dawn will distribute the prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
