The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has appointed their pace bowling coach Courtney Walsh as the Head Coach of Bangladesh for the three-match Twenty20I series against Afghanistan in Dehradun, India.
The BCB officially made the announcement on Sunday.
Walsh had also performed the same job successfully, especially in T20 Cricket, during the Tri-nation Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka in March last.
The Tigers are scheduled to leave here for Dehradun on Tuesday (May 29) to play the three T20Is against Afghanistan on June 3, 5 and 7.
Bangladesh National Cricket team have been without a permanent head coach since resignation of Sri Lankan coach Chandika Hathurusingha in October last year.
Andy Flower, Tom Moody, Mahela Jayawardene, Kumar Sangakkara, Geoff Marsh and Paul Farbrace have already refused the BCB’s offer. The cricket board has also interviewed Richard Pybus and Phil Simmons who have already been employed by the West Indies and Afghanistan respectively.
Meanwhile, the BCB has appointed South African legendary opening batsman and coach of the ICC World Cup champions Indian cricket team Gary Kirsten as the National Team Management Consultant to help them select an appropriate head coach for the Bangladesh cricket team.
Gary reviewed the total team management, team assessment, audit, coaching and team selection process and other related works and advised BCB with his observations and recommendations.
He also discussed various issues with Bangladesh Test and T20 captain Shakib Al Hasan during IPL in India and also talked to ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, national opener Tamim and former Test captain Mushfiqur Rahim and other officials and coaching staff concerned during his three-day visit to Bangladesh last week.
