Wales business team due next week to drive bi-lateral trade

A 25-member of Wales-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce (WBCC) delegation from the United Kingdom (UK) will be visiting Bangladesh next week to drive forward business relations between Wales and Bangladesh in the fields of ‘Knowledge Businesses and Knowledge Transfer’.
Organised by the WBCC, the trade mission, headed by its chairman Dilabor A Hussain, will showcase leading Welsh companies to the local business community, and to introduce them to the growing Bangladesh economy and market, according to a press release of the British High Commission in Dhaka.
The delegation will include representatives from leading organisations such as the University of South Wales and TechniQuest, the leading science centre in Wales.
In addition to transfer of skills and knowledge by means of the business relationships, the WBCC is keen to assist Bangladesh and Wales to start developing bilateral trade and political relationships as both nations have much to offer each other in accordance to their respective national visions for growth, the press release said.
The delegation will visit Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong during their stay when it will meet with the commerce and education ministers and leading government officials and chambers and industry leaders.
British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert Gibson expected that “Exciting future collaboration would emerge as a part of this mission.”
He said Wales with its high tech businesses and industrial heritage can provide manufacturing, mining and technology expertise to Bangladesh.
This will be the second trade mission from the WBCC after the first one in 2011 when 23 delegates explored the trading opportunities here particularly in the energy and renewable sector.
The UK was the second largest cumulative investor and source of foreign direct investment (FDI) for Bangladesh in the last financial year with o159.5m worth of investment projects. Besides, some 100 UK firms are operating around Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.
