The Victory Day was celebrated n Monday in a befitting manner amid festivity and fanfare, renewing vow to build a happy, prosperous and peaceful Bangladesh.
Marking the day, district administrations, various cultural organisations, political parties and educational institutions chalked out elaborate programmes. Our correspondents and agencies report:
Khulna (South) Correspondent reports: The 49th Victory Day was observed in Khulna city and at nine upazilas of the district on Monday.
Marking the day, Khulna district administration arranged different programmes .
Earlier, at a meeting was held at the Conference Room of Khulna Deputy Commissioner’s office (DC office) where elites, officials, educationists, journalists, political and cultural activists of the city attended.
The programmes of the day began with the placing of wreaths on the monument of Shaheed martyrs of Gallyamari at 6 am of the Day.
The day was heralded by a 31-gun salute at dawn at the Khulna Police Line Ground.
Khulna Divisional Commissioner Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain Howlader hoisted the National Flag at Khulna Stadium Ground and took salute from grand parade.
Khulna Shishu Academy organised an art and painting competitions for children on the occasion.
Discussion meeting and a reception program to honor the freedom fighters were also held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner’s office ( DC Office ) of Khulna. National flags were hoisted a top all public and private buildings at dawn and placing of wreaths by the people of all walks of life at the Gallyamary monument on the day.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of the country.
Improved diet were served at all hospitals, orphanage centers and jail to mark the day.
State-run Khulna Betar broadcast special programs while the local newspapers published special supplements on the occasion.

The programmes included hoisting of national and party flag and to pay tribute at the portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Muzibur Rahman, floral wreath at the Gallamary martyrdom memorial and a discussion meeting.
Khulna University, Khulna University and Engineering Technology (KUET), Khulna Press Club, Khulna Union of Journalists (KUJ), 1971: Genocide and Tortured Archive Museum and different socio-cultural and political parties observed the victory day in a befitting manner.
A discussion and a reception accorded to the freedom fighters were held at the conference room of the deputy commissioner office.
People from all walks of life placed wreaths at the Gallamary monument for paying rich tributes to the martyrs on the day.
Special prayers were offered at mosques, temples, churches and other religious institutions, seeking divine blessings for the departed souls of the martyrs and peace and progress of the country.

A colourful victory rally was brought out by Awami League in the city that paraded main streets and ended at the party office followed by a discussion meeting.
Chaired by Khulna City Unit Awami League president and KCC Mayor Talukder Abdul Khaleque, the meeting was addressed, among others, by Khulna district unit AL president and Zila Parishad chairman Sheikh Harun-ur-Rashid, city unit AL general secretary MDA Babul Rana and its district unit general secretary advocate Sujit Adhikary.

Sylhet Bureau says: Sylhet Central Shaheed Minar was crowded by many people to pay their respects to the martyrs marking the Victory Day on Monday , the leaders of various political and social and cultural organisations lined up in long queues to pay their homage to the martyrs.

Bagerhat Correspondents reports: The 49th Victory Day was celebrated in Bagerhat district town and its al the 9 Upazilas through various programmes and huge enthusiasm and festivity on December 16 in order to pay rich tributes to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives to free their motherland during the nine-month bloody war against the Pakistani occupation forces in 1971. The day’s programme heralded with 31 gun salutes at dawn. It was followed with the hoisting of national flag atop all public and private buildings.
 The scores of political, socio-cultural, volunteer professional bodies, educational institutions, trade organizations, human rights, NGOs and other organizations placed floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shahid Minar at Dashiani square. Md. Mamunur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner (DC), Bagerhat and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super, Bagerhat placed floral wreaths on the Shahid Minar on be half of Bagerhat district administration and police administration respectively. Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League placed the floral wreaths at Muktijoddha Shaid Minar on behalf of Bagerhat district Awami League. Md. Mamunur Rashid, D C, Bagerhat hoisted the national flag in the ceremony and took the salute of the march-past as the chief guest.
It was followed by a discussion meeting and a reception function was held with Freedom Fighters and their families in honour of late Freedom Fighters in the local stadium, arranged by the district administration. The discussion meeting held in the same venue with Md. Mamunur Rashid, DC, Bagerhat in the chair was addressed among others by Al-haj Dr. Mozammel Hossain, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-4 and President of Bagerhat district unit of Bangladesh Awami League, Freedom Fighter Shaikh Kamruzzaman Tuku, Zila Parishad Chairman, Bagerhat and General Secretary of Bagerhat district Awami League, and Pankaj Chandra Roy, Police Super, Bagerhat. The programme also included supply of rich food to the prisoners in the jail, patients in hospitals and orphans in the orphanages, fancy foot ball play, documentary film show on the War of Liberation, special prayers held in mosques, temples and churches seeking divine blessings for peace, integrity, prosperity and overall development of the country, illumination and cultural function.

Kishoreganj District Administration, District Police, RAB, Pourashava, ruling Awami League, BNP, JASOD, Ganatantree Party, Gono-Forum, CPB, BASOD and many other organisations have chalked out celebrated the Victory Day here in a befitting manner.
The programme include a 31 gun salute, placing of wheaths at the movement and local monument of the martyred, hosting of the national flags a top all public and private building, decorating town streets with National Flag and colourfull posters. A march past along wih physical displays by Police, Anser-VDP, Fire Service, BNCC, Scouts, Children and students on the Syed Nazrul Islam Stadium.
A victory rally brought out in the town led by DC Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowhdury, Police Super Md. Mashrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) and Ex. Freedom Fighter Unit Commander Md. Asad Ullah.
A discussion meeting and Freedom Fighter reception held at Local Art Council hall on the day. Deputy Commissioner Md. Sarowar Morshed Chowdhury presided over the function.

District Police arranged Freedom Fighter reception held at its Police Lines on Monday noon. SP Md. Masrukur Rahman Khaled BPM (Bar) Presided over the function. Additional DIG and Vetern Freedom Fighter Abdul Kahar Akanda attended as chief guest.
It was addressed among others by Additional SP (Promoted) Nazmul Islam and Additional SP Mizanur Rahman.
A cultural function was held at Local Art Council Hall on Monday evening.
Gopalganj Correspondent says: The 49th Victory Day was observed within a befitting manner in Gopalganj on Monday.
The day was begun in firing 31- gun-shoots, the national flag was hosted by Shahida Sultana, D),Gopalganj at just after sun rising. Different political parties,freedom fighters, journalists, educational institutions and various organizations placed floral wreaths at the independent monument of Gopalganj town.
Earlier at 01:00 AM (night) respect placed floral wreaths at the Mazar of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Tungipara, Gopalganj.
In the morning at 8:30 am different school’s students, rover scouts, BNCC, police, ansar VDP, fire service and civil defence,orphans and different organizations attended in a march-passed and gymnastics show at Sheikh Kamal stadium in Gopalganj town. Earlier DC Gopalganj formally hosted national flag at the same place. Same day at 11:00 am placed floral wreaths, a discussion meeting, reception function and milad mahfil was held with freedom fighters family to the honour of last freedom fighters `71 Badhya Bhumi premises in Gopalganj town arranged by freedom fighters celebrating committee .
