The ruling Awami League on Tuesday said that the vote casting of three city polls was held peacefully on Monday.
“The election in Rajshahi, Barishal and Sylhet cities was held peacefully and that is why the BNP mayor candidate won in Sylhet. We thank the Election Commission for holding the election in free and fair manner,” AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader said it while addressing a press conference at Dhanmandi office of the party President.
The Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said, people have rejected the BNP in the city polls of Rajshahi and Barishal to ensure Awami League’s large victory there.
He said, “Our mayor candidate lost in Sylhet narrowly due to weak organisaional activities there.”
Referring to the BNP’s demonstration programme rejecting city polls results, he said, the people will also reject their protest programme.
The AL leader claimed that the vote casting in three city polls was peacefull and that is why the BNP mayor candidate won in Sylhet.
He thanked the Election Commission for holding the election in free and fair manner and also thanked the voters for casting in favour of Awami League candidates.
Joint General Secretaries of the party Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, central leaders Hasan Mahmood, Asim Kumar Ukil, SM Kamal Hossain, Delwar Hossain and Biplab Barua, among others attended the press conference.
