VoIP equipment, cocktails, gold seized: 8 held

Airport Customs and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in separate drives arrested eight persons along with Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) equipments, crude cocktails and gold ornaments in the city and outskirt Tongi on Wednesday, sources said.
RAB Media Wing Assistant Director Captain Maksud Alam said that a special team of the elite force raided a house at Tongi on receipt of a secret information and arrested six persons with the VoIP equipments.
The RAB official said that they had seized three laptops, one computer, 15 mobile phone sets and over 1000 SIM (Subscribe Identification Module) cards from their possession. The arrested persons are being interrogated, Captain Maksud said. On the other hand, RAB-2 Assistant Police Super (ASP) said that a RAB team raiding an area near a gas station at Hazaribagh recovered 10 unclaimed crude cocktails and picked up a suspect identified as Nurul Islam, 40. He is under interrogation.
The arrested person is being interrogated in this connection, he said. Meanwhile, Customs Intelligence Department’ Assistant Commissioner Sampriti Pramanik said that they conducted a drive in the city’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) based on a secret information and searched the luggage of a passenger on suspicion and recovered some gold ornaments weighing 700 grams worth about Tk 50 lakh. The arrested passenger has been identified as Shah Alam, who came from Malaysia by a flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines, early Wednesday.
